DTUN is a lipophilic hyponitrite radical initiator. DTUN decomposes to form lipophilic alkoxyl radicals that initiate phospholipid peroxidation in liposomal egg phosphatidylcholine. DTUN can be used as a tool for research of ferroptosis.

DTUN (200 μM) acts as a lipophilic initiator of phospholipid peroxidation in liposomal egg phosphatidylcholine suspensions, enabling measurement of radical-trapping antioxidant activity via STY-BODIPY oxidation[1].
