DCPD is an amine substance with both embryotoxicity and teratogenicity, and its total effect ED50 is 0.6 μmol per egg. DCPD induces early and late embryonic death, and causes multiple embryonic malformations including microcephaly, hypoplastic optic cup, eyelid and corneal defects. DCPD can serve as a calcium phosphate additive for biomimetic α-tricalcium phosphate bone cement, which inhibits the transformation of α-tricalcium phosphate into calcium-deficient hydroxyapatite, blocks the release of Gelatins (HY-Y1365), and effectively prolongs the setting time of bone cement. DCPD is applicable to studies related to embryonic malformations.\n

Biological Activity
DCPD prolongs the initial and final setting times of gelatin-α-TCP bone cement, and 15 wt.% DCPD completely inhibits setting; it reduces the long-term conversion rate of α-TCP to CDHA in gelatin-α-TCP bone cement and prevents the release of gelatin from gelatin-α-TCP bone cement during immersion in physiological solution[2].
DCPD dissolves rapidly in gelatin-α-TCP bone cements immersed in physiological solutions, and the dissolution rate decreases with the increase of initial DCPD content[2].
DCPD improves the mechanical properties of gelatin-α-TCP bone cement; it alters the morphological development during the curing process of gelatin-α-TCP bone cement, forming a denser surface and smaller crystals at DCPD concentrations of 2.5 wt.% and 5 wt.%[2].
