NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) is a metal-organic framework (MOF) with coordinatively unsaturated iron sites and carbon monoxide-releasing activity. NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) binds with carbon monoxide to form Fe2+-CO and Fe3+-CO adducts, and releases the bound carbon monoxide under physiological conditions, serving as a carrier and delivery vehicle for gaseous transmitters.

Biological Activity
NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) generates unsaturated coordination sites for Fe3+ and Fe2+, with the proportion of Fe2+ sites reaching 29.8% after activation at 550 K; under physiological buffer conditions, 1 mg of the sample can sustainably release 0.69 μmol CO with a release half-life of 76 min. The release rate is controlled by material degradation. The material has excellent biocompatibility and can be used for CO delivery[1].
