Biological Activity

Description

APOBEC3A protein is a DNA deaminase that limits the mobility of viruses, foreign DNA, and retrotransposons. APOBEC3A Protein, Human (His-SUMO) is the recombinant human-derived APOBEC3A protein, expressed by E. coli , with N-6*His, N-SUMO labeled tag.

Background

APOBEC3A protein functions as a DNA deaminase, specifically a cytidine deaminase, exerting restriction activity against viruses, foreign DNA, and the mobility of retrotransposons. It demonstrates antiviral efficacy against adeno-associated virus (AAV) and human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1), potentially impeding the mobility of both LTR and non-LTR retrotransposons. APOBEC3A selectively targets single-stranded DNA, exhibiting the capacity to deaminate both methylcytosine and cytosine in foreign DNA. Additionally, it can induce somatic hypermutation in both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA, suggesting its involvement in genomic diversity. Furthermore, APOBEC3A may contribute to the epigenetic regulation of gene expression through the active process of DNA demethylation, highlighting its multifaceted role in cellular defense mechanisms and potential impact on the epigenetic landscape.

Verified Bioactivity

Immobilized Human APOBEC3A at 2 μg/mL can bind Anti-APOBEC3A antibody. The ED50 for this effect is 2.25 ng/mL.
