Background

VTI1A, a vesicle-associated soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (V-SNARE), plays a crucial role in mediating vesicle transport pathways through interactions with target membrane t-SNAREs, contributing to the specificity of vesicle trafficking and facilitating lipid bilayer fusion. This protein is implicated in vesicular transport from late endosomes to the trans-Golgi network and participates, along with VAMP7, in a non-conventional RAB1-dependent traffic route to the cell surface used by KCNIP1 and KCND2. Additionally, VTI1A may be associated with increased cytokine secretion observed during cellular senescence. It interacts with distinct SNARE complexes containing either STX5 or STX6, and forms a complex with NAPA and, to a lesser extent, with NAPG. Furthermore, VTI1A is identified in a complex alongside STX6, STX12, VAMP4, and itself, highlighting its role in diverse intracellular trafficking processes.
