Tri(2-methylphenyl)phosphine
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine is a sterically hindered tertiary phosphine ligand. Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine forms a 1:1 crystalline adduct with copper (I) halides CuX (X = Cl, Br, I), yielding a centrosymmetric dinuclear copper (I) complex bridged by dihalides. Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine is applicable to coordination chemistry, synthesis of copper (I) halide complexes, and structural and spectral studies of phosphine-metal halide complexes.

Biological Activity
Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine reacts with copper (I) halide (2.0 mmol) in refluxing acetonitrile, and crystalline precipitates form after hot filtration and cooling; the CuCl system is identified as the tricoordinate dimer [P (o-tol)3CuCl]2, while the CuBr and CuI systems are identified as the mixed-ligand dimers [(MeCN) P (o-tol)3CuX]2[1].
Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine reacts with CuBr or CuI in boiling toluene, and after filtration and cooling, crystals of three-coordinate bromide and iodide dimers are obtained directly, with the iodide co-crystallized with 2 toluene molecules[1].
[P (o-tol)3CuCl]2, formed by Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine and CuCl, is a discrete centrosymmetric dichloride-bridged dimer, with the PCuCl2CuP unit being essentially planar; the methyl group on each benzene ring in the ligand points toward the Cu2Cl2 core[1].
Recrystallization of Tri (2-methylphenyl) phosphine with CuBr in acetonitrile yields [(MeCN) P (o-tol)3CuBr]2. This complex is a discrete centrosymmetric dibromo-bridged dimer containing four-coordinate copper atoms; acetonitrile coordination causes the Cu-P bond to deviate from the Cu2Br2 plane, forming a distorted tetrahedral PCuX2N environment around each copper center[1].
