2-Nonyl acetate is an insecticide and also the main component of the essential oil extracted from the aerial parts of Ruta chalepensis. 2-Nonyl acetate exhibits biting repellent activity against Aedes aegypti and Anopheles quadrimaculatus. It can be used in insecticidal research.

Activité biologique
2-Nonyl acetate (4.65-9.3 μg/cm2; 3 minutes) exhibits biting deterrent activity statistically similar to DEET against Aedes aegypti adult females at 9.3 μg/cm2, but shows reduced activity at 4.65 μg/cm2[2].
2-Nonyl acetate (9.3 μg/cm2; 3 minutes) exhibits significantly lower biting deterrent activity than DEET against Anopheles quadrimaculatus adult females, with activity similar to 2-undecanone and 2-nonanone[2].
