3-Chloro-L-tyrosine is a specific biomarker in myeloperoxidase-catalyzed oxidation. 3-Chloro-L-tyrosine can be used as a molecular marker for oxidative stress and inflammation to determine whether myeloperoxidase-mediated tyrosine chlorination occurs. 3-Chloro-L-tyrosine is therefore used in the diagnosis of chlorine poisoning in forensic toxicology and in the auxiliary diagnosis of inflammation such as colorectal cancer.

The detection limit of 3-Chloro-L-tyrosine purified by protein precipitation and cation exchange solid phase extraction is 5 ng/mL, and the concentration in the left heart blood of chlorine poisoning autopsy reaches 59.7 ng/mL [1].
The detection limit of 3-Chloro-L-tyrosine (0.1-3.0 ng/mL; during the analysis) after acetone liquid-liquid extraction is 0.03 ng/mL, and the concentration in the plasma of colorectal cancer patients (1.20 ng/mL) is significantly higher than that of healthy controls (0.52 ng/mL)[2].
