Background
-
Function
PSCA may be involved in the regulation of cell proliferation. Has a cell-proliferation inhibition activity in vitro; May act as a modulator of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) activity. In vitro inhibits nicotine-induced signaling probably implicating alpha-3:beta-2- or alpha-7-containing nAChRs

Subcellular Localization
Cell membrane; Lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor

Expression
Tissue_specificity:It is highly expressed in the prostate (basal epithelial cells, secretory epithelial cells, and neuroendocrine epithelial cells) . It is also found in the bladder (transitional epithelium) , placenta (trophoblast cells) , stomach (neuroendocrine cells) , colon (neuroendocrine cells) , and kidney (collecting ducts) . It is overexpressed in prostate cancer, and its expression is correlated with tumor stage, grade, and androgen-independent characteristics. It is highly expressed in bone metastases of prostate cancer. It is expressed in gastric epithelial cells, primarily in the gastric isthmus (protein level) . It is not detected in normal intestinal epithelium (protein level) . It is expressed in the cerebral cortex; its expression is significantly increased in the prefrontal cortex of Alzheimer's disease patients.
