The basal plasma level of Diamine oxidase correlates with the maturity and integrity of the intestinal mucosa, and its activity increases synchronously with that of ornithine decarboxylase during adaptive hyperplasia after small bowel resection. Diamine oxidase can assist in the diagnosis of histamine intolerance, and also predict anticancer drug-related gastrointestinal toxicity and malnutrition^[1]^[2].
