Dihydroavicine
Dihydroavicine is a benzophenanthridine alkaloid antibacterial agent isolated from the stem bark of Zanthoxylum rhoifolium. Dihydroavicine inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and Candida albicans. Dihydroavicine shows no activity against Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Cryptococcus neoformans. Dihydroavicine can be used for the research of bacterial infections and candidal infections.

Biological Activity
Dihydroavicine (compound 5) (1.56-12.5 μg; 24-72 h) inhibits the growth of specific Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and Candida albicans, with an effective inhibitory dose range of 1.56-12.5 μg against different microorganisms[1].
Dihydroavicine (100 μg/mL; 24-72 h) exhibits weak antibacterial activity against specific Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria with an MIC of 100 μg/mL, but shows no activity against the tested yeasts[1].
