KEGIHAQ
KEGIHAQ is a novel signal peptide and an effector of the dipeptide transporter DppA. KEGIHAQ binds to the oligopeptide transporter OppA and inhibits OppA expression, which leads to compensatory up-regulation of DppA and thereby promotes dipeptide uptake. KEGIHAQ enhances the acid tolerance of bacteria by regulating the expression of transcriptional regulators rmal and spxA, thus promoting bacterial growth. KEGIHAQ can up-regulate genes related to amino acid metabolism to facilitate amino acid synthesis, energy production and various bacterial physiological activities. KEGIHAQ can serve as a nitrogen source-targeting peptide in high-density culture of lactic acid bacteria.

KEGIHAQ (0.003-5 g/L; 12 h) potently promotes the proliferation of *Lactobacillus delbrueckii* subsp. *bulgaricus* sp1.1, with the optimal growth-promoting effect observed at a concentration of 0.1% (w/v), where the viable cell count reaches 1.34 × 109 CFU/mL[1].
KEGIHAQ (0.1% (w/v); 24 h) enhances the acid tolerance of *L. delbrueckii* subsp. *bulgaricus* sp1.1 under pH 4.2 conditions, and at a concentration of 0.1% (w/v), its viable cell count reaches 1.41 times that of the control group[1].
KEGIHAQ (0.1% (w/v)) acts as an effector to trigger global adaptive reprogramming in L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus sp1.1, upregulating dppA and amino acid metabolism genes, thereby enhancing dipeptide uptake, amino acid synthesis, energy production, and acid resistance, without being directly assimilated itself[1].
