Description

KF-22 is an antimicrobial peptide that exhibits antimicrobial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. KF-22 demonstrates broad-spectrum, potent activity against multidrug-resistant bacteria with low toxicity. KF-22 can be used in research related to infections[1].

In Vitro

KF-22 (18-24 h) exhibits potent broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against 21 multidrug-resistant Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, with MIC values ranging from 1.25 to 5 μg/mL[1].
KF-22 (0-320 μg/mL; 1-24 h) exhibits low hemolytic activity against mouse red blood cells, moderate cytotoxicity against HEK 293 cells at concentrations >120 μg/mL, and lower cytotoxicity against RAW 264.7 cells [1].
KF-22 (1-10 μg/mL) disrupts the cytoplasmic membrane potential of A. baumannii ATCC 19606 and S. aureus ATCC 25923 in a concentration-dependent manner[1].
KF-22 (0-20 μg/mL; 1 h) disrupts the outer and cytoplasmic membranes of A. baumannii ATCC 19606 and S. aureus ATCC 25923 in a dose-dependent manner[1].
KF-22 (0-20 μg/mL; 24 h) dose-dependently inhibits biofilm formation by A. baumannii ATCC 19606 and S. aureus ATCC 25923 and clears preformed biofilms[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

KF-22 (5-10 mg/kg; i.p.; daily; 3 days) improves survival in mice infected with A. baumannii ATCC 19606[1].
KF-22 (2-8 mg/kg; i.p.; single dose 1 hour post-infection) has antibacterial activity in neutropenic mice infected with A. baumannii ATCC 19606[1].

Animal Model: C57BL/6J mice (female, 6-8 weeks old, 18 ± 2 g, intraperitoneally infected with A. baumannii ATCC 19606)[1]
Dosage: 5 mg/kg; 10 mg/kg
Administration: i.p.; daily; 3 days
Result: Achieved 62.5% survival rate over 7 days at 5 mg/kg.
Achieved 75% survival rate over 7 days at 10 mg/kg.
Animal Model: C57BL/6J mice (female, 6-8 weeks old, 18 ± 2 g, neutropenia induced by cyclophosphamide (HY-17420), then intraperitoneally infected with Acinetobacter baumannii ATCC 19606)[1]
Dosage: 2 mg/kg; 4 mg/kg; 8 mg/kg
Administration: i.p.; single dose 1 hour post-infection
Result: Reduced bacterial load in kidney, liver, lung, and spleen.
Significantly decreased proinflammatory cytokine (TNF-α, IL-1β) production in kidney and lung homogenates.
Showed no significant pathological changes in kidney, liver, lung, or spleen via H&E staining.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
