Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
Synthetic Rhizocticin A (3.5-1050 μg/L; 24 h) does not exhibit significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, or Candida glabrata when tested at concentrations up to 1050 μg/L for 24 h in liquid media[1].
Rhizocticin A (11-3500 ng/disk) potently inhibits the growth of diverse fungal strains, including Saccharomyces cerevisiae Tü 125, Saccharomycopsis lipolytica Tü 8097, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe Tü 251 with an MIC of 0.35 μg/mL, and Ascodesmis sphaerospora Tü 147, Nematospora coryli Tü 194, and Basidiobolus microsporus Tü 174 with an MIC of 3.5 μg/mL, while showing variable activity against other filamentous and basidiomycete fungi[2].
Rhizocticin A (0.110 mg/mL)'s antifungal activity against Saccharomyces cerevisiae Tü 125 and Paecilomyces variotii Tü 137 is competitively antagonized by specific oligopeptides (including Arg-Leu-acetate, Arg-Tyr, and Phe-Gly-Gly) and L-/D-cystine, and non-competitively antagonized by Thr, homoserine, and Trp, indicating uptake via oligopeptide transporters and potential interference with threonine-related metabolism[2].
Rhizocticin A (1 mg/mL; 36 μg/mL) does not inhibit the growth of 18 tested bacterial strains or Paramecium caudatum at the tested concentrations[2].

Animal Model:Caenorhabditis elegans (fed on Escherichia coli strain 645)[2]
-
Dosage:3.5 μg/mL; 10 μg/mL
-
Administration:in culture medium; continuous exposure
-
Result:Reduced nematode motility at 3.5 μg/mL.
Killed all test animals at 10 μg/mL.
Failed to have toxic effects prevented by 150 μg/mL threonine added to the culture medium.
