SGC5 is a fluorescence enhancer and membrane dissociator with millisecond-scale membrane dissociation kinetics, with an emission spectrum of 500-650 nm. SGC5 produces strong fluorescence upon binding to lipid membranes, exhibits fast partitioning dissociation kinetics at higher temperatures, and is unaffected by pH or cholesterol. SGC5 does not belong to the FM dye family and shows the highest membrane-bound fluorescence intensity among the tested styryl/FM dyes. SGC5 can be used to study synaptic vesicle cycling in neurons.

Description

SGC5 is a fluorescence enhancer and membrane dissociator with millisecond-scale membrane dissociation kinetics, with an emission spectrum of 500-650 nm. SGC5 produces strong fluorescence upon binding to lipid membranes, exhibits fast partitioning dissociation kinetics at higher temperatures, and is unaffected by pH or cholesterol. SGC5 does not belong to the FM dye family and shows the highest membrane-bound fluorescence intensity among the tested styryl/FM dyes. SGC5 can be used to study synaptic vesicle cycling in neurons[1].

In Vitro

When SGC5 (0-20 μM) binds to 30% PE/70% PC liposomes, its fluorescence intensity is higher than that of all tested FM dyes, and the fold increase in fluorescence after membrane binding is second only to that of FM1-84[1].
SGC5 (0-20 nM liposomes; fixed SGC5 concentration) binds to 30% PE/70% PC liposomes with an EC50 of 4.0 nM, and the resulting fluorescence intensity and signal-to-noise ratio are comparable to those of FM1-84 (HY-D1515) and FM1-43 (HY-D1434)[1].
After being loaded into synaptic vesicles of cultured rat hippocampal neurons, SGC5 (2 μM; 3 min) emits a peak at ~530 nm[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
