Acorbine
Acorbine is an orally active, hepatoprotective tripeptide present in the brackish-water bivalve Corbicula japonica. Hydrolysis of Acorbine yields free β-alanine and ornithine, which mediate the host defense system of Corbicula japonica in response to biological stress and changes in growth conditions. Acorbine inhibits ethanol-induced hepatocyte death and liver injury. Acorbine can be used in studies related to liver diseases.

Biological Activity
Acorbine consists of two L-ornithine residues and one β-alanine residue; low-temperature treatment of Corbicula japonica induces proteolysis and increases the contents of free L-ornithine and β-alanine[1].
Acorbine (40 μM; 24 h) protects IVLmES/iPS hepatocytes differentiated from ST1 embryonic stem cells, Bruce 4 embryonic stem cells, and iPS-MEF-Ng-20D-17 induced pluripotent stem cells against ethanol-induced death, and preserves the urea-producing function of the liver[2].
