Antifungal agent 178 is an indole-oxazole alkaloid analog and a fungal cell membrane disruptor that exhibits low phytotoxicity toward plants. Antifungal agent 178 disrupts the integrity of hyphal cell membranes, leading to cytoplasmic leakage and inhibition of hyphal growth, and induces morphological changes in hyphae. In Vitro
Antifungal agent 178 (Compound Z-2) in the mycelial growth inhibition assay exhibits EC50 = 7.03 mg/L against Rhizoctonia solani, EC50 = 13.5 mg/L against Botrytis cinerea Pers, EC50 = 6.30 mg/L against Pyricularia oryzae, and EC50 = 13.7 mg/L against Fusarium graminearum[1].
Antifungal agent 178 (EC50 100 mg/L; 20-240 min) exerts its antifungal effect by disrupting the cell membrane and increasing its permeability in R. solani and B. cinerea Pers., leading to leakage of intracellular electrolytes[1].
Antifungal agent 178 (100 mg/L) causes hyphal distortion, shrinkage, rupture, plasmolysis, and organelle disintegration in Botrytis cinerea Pers[1].

In Vivo
Antifungal agent 178 (100 mg/L; spraying) exhibits excellent control activity against Rhizoctonia solani in rice, with a chlorotic lesion diameter of 1.50 cm[1].
