ABL2

ABL2, also known as ARG (ABL-related gene), encodes a cytoplasmic and nuclear tyrosine kinase closely related to ABL1 and organized with SH3, SH2, and catalytic domains followed by F-actin and G-actin binding regions. In contrast to its leukemia-associated sibling, ABL2 is best characterized as a regulator of cytoskeletal dynamics: it modulates cell spreading, migration, and neurite extension downstream of growth factor and integrin signals. The kinase also contributes to the cellular response to oxidative and genotoxic stress. Altered ABL2 expression has been reported in solid tumors, and its actin-binding module distinguishes it functionally from ABL1.
