Biological Activity: 2-Hydroxyvaleric acid is a medium chain α-hydroxy fatty acid. 2-Hydroxyvaleric acid is an activator in fat metabolism of palmitic acid-1-C14. 2-hydroxyvaleric acid is also used as a staining agent for measuring tissue-specific Lactate dehydrogenase activity and elevated levels of 2-hydroxyvaleric acid induces lactic acidosis[1][2].
