CELSR2

CELSR2, known as Flamingo-2, is one of three vertebrate Flamingo-family atypical cadherins and features cadherin repeats fused to a seven-pass, GPCR-like transmembrane core. It is expressed widely in the developing nervous system and in epithelia, where it participates in planar cell polarity signaling and, notably, in orienting the motile cilia of ependymal cells that drive cerebrospinal fluid flow. Beyond polarity, CELSR2 sits in the 1p13 locus whose common variants are strongly associated with plasma LDL cholesterol and myocardial infarction risk, although SORT1 at that locus mediates much of the lipid effect. CELSR2 also contributes to neuronal migration.
