Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp (ChOx, rhodococcus sp) (EC 1.1.3.6) is a cholesterol oxidase identified from bacterial sources. Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp catalyzes the oxidation of cholesterol to 4-cholesten-3-one, while simultaneously reducing oxygen to hydrogen peroxide. Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp retains its enzymatic activity and exhibits improved catalytic efficiency upon immobilization. Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp is applicable for cholesterol detection, steroid biotransformation, and research on tuberculosis-related diseases.

Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp is heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli, achieving an enzyme yield of 2150-2180 U/L and a specific activity of 2.2 U/mg protein[1].
Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp (17.65 U/mg; overnight) can be immobilized on silane-modified iron (II, III) oxide magnetic nanoparticles, achieving a maximum immobilization efficiency of 91%, and catalyzes the biotransformation of cholesterol into 4-cholesten-3-one[5].
Cholesterol oxidase, rhodococcus sp exhibits a Km of 16.7 mM and a Vmax of 0.25 mM/min in its free form, while immobilization reduces the Km to 8.3 mM and increases the Vmax to 0.31 mM/min, significantly improving its catalytic efficiency[5].
