FITC-Dextran (MW 1000) is a compound that belongs to the class of fluorescent dyes. It is often used as a tracer molecule in biomedical research to label and track cells or other biological substances. FITC-Dextran consists of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and dextran, a complex carbohydrate extracted from starch. Biological Activity
FITC-Dextran (MW 1000) is a fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) dextran fluorescent probe (Ex=495 nm; Em=525 nm). FITC-Dextran (MW 1000) can be used as a marker to reveal cell damage caused by heat shock and to study the early and late stages of apoptosis. FITC-Dextran (MW 1000) can also be used to study cell permeability, such as the determination of blood-brain barrier permeability and the degree of blood-brain barrier damage. Storage: Protect from light.

Intestinal barrier function assay[5]
1. Starve mice for 4 hours.
2. Orally administer FITC-Dextran MW 20000 to mice (0.6 mg/g).
3. Measure fluorescence intensity (Ex nm/Em 520 nm) within 4 hours.
