Globo H is a carbohydrate antigen belonging to the globo-series glycosphingolipids, and its non-reducing terminal tetrasaccharide fragment serves as the core epitope recognized by antibodies. Globo H is upregulated in a variety of human cancer tissues, and is also present in some normal fetal and adult epithelial tissues. Globo H can be used in cancer-related research.

Description
In Vitro
Globo H, in the forms of Globo H‑BSA and Globo H‑ceramide, binds strongly to mAb VK‑9. This antigen achieves optimal binding to mAb VK‑9 via its 4 non-reducing terminal sugar sequences, while internal α‑GalNAc linkage modifications reduce binding affinity. Mixed hemagglutination assays confirm that this antigen is highly expressed on the surface of MCF‑7 human breast cancer cells and binds strongly to mAb VK‑9. Immunocytochemical detection shows only weak binding to SK‑OV‑4 human ovarian cancer cells and T47D human breast cancer cells, with no binding observed in the other tested cancer cell lines[1].
