  3. Polymyxin P1 TFA

Polymyxin P1 TFA is a lipopeptide antibiotic belonging to the Polymyxin family, and it is a secondary metabolite produced by the rhizosphere bacterium Paenibacillus polymyxa M-1. Polymyxin P1 TFA binds to bacterial outer membrane lipopolysaccharides, permeabilizes cell membranes, and induces dense protrusions on the cell surface of phytopathogenic Erwinia strains. Polymyxin P1 TFA inhibits the growth of phytopathogenic Erwinia amylovora and E. carotovora. Polymyxin P1 TFA can be used for the research of fire blight and soft rot.

Description

Polymyxin P1 TFA is a lipopeptide antibiotic belonging to the Polymyxin family, and it is a secondary metabolite produced by the rhizosphere bacterium Paenibacillus polymyxa M-1. Polymyxin P1 TFA binds to bacterial outer membrane lipopolysaccharides, permeabilizes cell membranes, and induces dense protrusions on the cell surface of phytopathogenic Erwinia strains. Polymyxin P1 TFA inhibits the growth of phytopathogenic Erwinia amylovora and E. carotovora. Polymyxin P1 TFA can be used for the research of fire blight and soft rot[1].

In Vitro

Polymyxin P1 TFA strongly inhibits the growth of Erwinia amylovora Ea 273, Erwinia carotovora, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli K12, and Micrococcus luteus, with inhibition zone diameters ranging from 18 mm to 23 mm, and also inhibits growth of several other bacterial strains to varying degrees[1].
Polymyxin P1 (20 μg/mL; 2 h) TFA induces dense surface protrusions on Erwinia amylovora Ea 273 and Erwinia carotovora cells, indicating disruption of the bacterial cell outer membrane[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
