  3. Taribavirin

Taribavirin is an orally active inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase inhibitor, has activity against a wide range of viruses, especially the hepatitis C virus and influenza virus. Taribavirin, is a ribavirin proagent, is designed to concentrate within the liver to target HCV-infected hepatocytes while minimizing distribution within red blood cells (RBCs) and the development of hemolytic anemia.

At equivalent molar concentrations, both the salt and free forms of a compound exhibit comparable biological activity. Nevertheless, the salt form (Taribavirin hydrochloride) usually boasts enhanced water solubility and stability.

In Vitro

Taribavirin (0-2 μM; 24 hours) significantly induces MCF-7 cell death, recording half inhibitory effect (IC50) of 0.756 μM in MCF-7 cells[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
