Function
CD42b (GPIbα) is a platelet membrane glycoprotein encoded by the GP1BA gene. It is the core functional subunit of the GPIb-IX-V complex responsible for directly recognizing and binding vWF. CD42b is mainly expressed in platelets and megakaryocytes, mediating the initial adhesion of platelets to the damaged vessel wall after vascular injury. It is a key initiation molecule for normal hemostasis and thrombosis. CD42b is not only an important pathogenic protein related to Bernard-Soulier syndrome, but also a classic biomarker in platelet function testing, AML-M7 immunophenotyping, and megakaryocyte differentiation research.

Subunit
Two GP-Ib beta are disulfide-linked to one GP-Ib alpha. GP-IX is complexed with the GP-Ib heterodimer via a non covalent linkage (PubMed:17008541, PubMed:2070794). Interacts with FLNB (PubMed:9651345). Interacts with FLNA (via filamin repeats 4, 9, 12, 17, 19, 21, and 23) (PubMed:19828450)
