Antifungal agent 173
Antifungal agent 173 is an orally active antifungal (fungal) agent. Antifungal agent 173 disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity, inhibits yeast-hypha transition in Candida species, and suppresses biofilms. Antifungal agent 173 prevents mouse mortality in a mouse model of systemic candidiasis and reduces tongue lesions in a mouse model of oropharyngeal candidiasis. Antifungal agent 173 is applicable to research related to candidiasis.

Biological Activity
Antifungal agent 173 (Compound SM21) (0.11-54.8 μg/mL; 24 h) potently inhibits yeast-to-hypha transition in Candida albicans SC5314 and clinical isolates CL1-CL10, with an MICY-H of 0.43 μg/mL for 1×106 CFUs/mL cells, and suppresses hypha-specific HWP1 gene expression[1].
Antifungal agent 173 (0.2-6.25 μg/mL; 48-72 h) displays broad antifungal activity against Candida species, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Penicillium marneffei (MIC range 0.2-1.6 μg/mL), and is effective against antifungal-resistant Candida isolates with MIC values of 0.5-1 μg/mL[1].
Antifungal agent 173 (0.2-100 μg/mL; 24 h) potently inhibits Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and Candida krusei biofilms, with an MICbiofilm of 3.2 μg/mL for 24-h biofilms, and reduces C. albicans BF-1 biofilm viability on PMMA denture discs by up to 97% when applied both before and after the adhesion phase[1].
Antifungal agent 173 (0.5-2 μg/mL; 24 h) prevents Candida albicans SC5314 invasion of human oral keratinocytes[1].
Antifungal agent 173 (0.1 μg/mL; 1 h) disrupts the cell membrane integrity of Candida albicans SC5314[1].
Antifungal agent 173 (0.05-54.8 μg/mL; 24 h) displays low toxicity to human cells, with a CC50 of 3.4 μg/mL for human oral keratinocytes, and at 0.2 μg/mL causes minimal viability reduction in HOKs and monocytes while having no effect on human gingival fibroblasts[1].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
Antifungal agent 173 (200 μg/mL; oral pipetting; 5 total timed doses post-inoculation) reduces oral candidiasis tongue lesion severity to a score of 1 and lowers fungal burden in mouse oral cavities to 4.5×102 CFUs/mL[1].
