PIK3CG

The p110γ catalytic subunit, encoded by PIK3CG, distinguishes class IB PI3K from the class IA enzymes: it associates with the p101 or p84 regulatory subunit and is activated principally by Gβγ subunits released from G protein-coupled receptors rather than by tyrosine kinase receptors. Its expression is concentrated in leukocytes, platelets and heart. p110γ governs neutrophil and macrophage chemotaxis, mast-cell responses and T-cell trafficking, and it modulates cardiac contractility and maladaptive remodeling under stress, making it a dual target of interest for inflammatory disease and heart failure research. Genetic deletion studies in mice confirm its dominant role in directing leukocyte recruitment to sites of inflammation.
