  3. Pulvinamide

Pulvinamide is a tetronic acid pigment, a pulvinic acid derivative, an Antibacterial agent and Antifungal agent. Pulvinamide can be isolated from lichens. Pulvinamide weakly inhibits the growth of Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633) with an MIC of 50 μg/mL. Pulvinamide weakly inhibits the growth of Candida albicans (ATCC 10231) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ATCC 9763), with MIC values of 200 μg/mL and 100 μg/mL, respectively.

In Vitro

Pulvinamide (50 μg/mL; 48 h) weakly inhibits the growth of Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633) with an MIC of 50 μg/mL, and shows no activity against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) at concentrations up to 100 μg/mL[1].
Pulvinamide (100-200 μg/mL; 48 h) weakly inhibits the growth of Candida albicans (ATCC 10231) with an MIC of 200 μg/mL and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ATCC 9763) with an MIC of 100 μg/mL following 48 h incubation[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
