Description

Spiroxasone is an orallyactive thioacetyl-containing steroid. Spiroxasone can prevent fatal renal damage and nephrocalcinosis associated with acute mercuric chloride intoxication. Spiroxasone can be used for the research of acute HgCl2 poisoning[1].

In Vivo

Spiroxasone (10 mg; p.o.; 1 hour before HgCl2 administration) offers excellent protection against both nephrocalcinosis and mortality induced by acute HgCl2 poisoning (300 μg i.v.) in female ARS/Sprague-Dawley rats[1].
