2-(Dodecyloxy) ethanol (Ethylene glycol monododecyl ether) is a nonionic ether monohydroxy C12 surfactant with a fragrance-like odor similar to jasmone and gardenia. 2-(Dodecyloxy) ethanol acts as a phase transition inducer and micelle-forming agent. 2-(Dodecyloxy) ethanol also serves as a skin penetration enhancer.

Biological Activity
2-(Dodecyloxy) ethanol (0.16 M; 1 h) enhances the passive transdermal penetration of Ondansetron hydrochloride (HY-B0002) and Diltiazem hydrochloride (HY-14656) through stripped pig skin[3].
2-(Dodecyloxy) ethanol (0.16 M; 1 h) enhances iontophoresis and post-iontophoretic transdermal penetration of ondansetron hydrochloride and diltiazem hydrochloride through stripped porcine skin[3].
2-(Dodecyloxy) ethanol (0.016-160 μM; 24 h) is toxic to cultured human epidermal keratinocytes and reduces the viability of cultured human dermal fibroblasts to approximately 35%[3].
