AM31 induces the expression of Ucp1 and Cidea in brown adipocytes. AM31 increases the levels of basal mitochondrial respiration and uncoupled respiration in brown adipocytes. AM31 can be used for the research of obesity and related metabolic disorders[1].

In Vitro

AM31 (10 μM; 8 h) stabilizes the EGFP-PGC-1α1 fusion protein in HEK 293-EGFPmPGC-1α1 cells[1].
AM31 (10 μM; 8 h) activates the expression of PGC-1α target genes in fully differentiated immortalized mouse brown adipocytes[1].
AM31 (10 μM; 8 h) stabilizes endogenous PGC-1α protein in fully differentiated immortalized mouse brown adipocytes following treatment with 10 μM for 8 h[1].
AM31 (10 μM; 8 h) increases basal mitochondrial respiration and uncoupled mitochondrial respiration levels in fully differentiated immortalized mouse brown adipocytes treated with 10 μM for 8 h, with the uncoupled respiration elevated by up to 38%[1].

Result: Induced a 12-fold increase in Ucp1 gene expression relative to DMSO control.
Induced a 4-fold increase in Cidea gene expression relative to DMSO control.
Induced smaller increases in expression of other PGC-1α target genes including Tra2, Fsp27, Cytc, Tfam, Cpt1b, Esrra, Prdm16, Pparg, and Sod1 relative to DMSO control.
