Description

Celite (Diatomaceous earth) is a filter aid. Celite induces hepatic tryptophan oxygenase activity and reduces hepatic glycogen in mouse experiments. Celite can be used for studies of endotoxemia[1].

In Vivo

Celite (5 mg; i.p.; daily; 5 days) induces sustained activation of hepatic tryptophan oxygenase in mice, reduces the level of endogenous hepatic glycogen, and exerts no effect on the carbon clearance function of the reticuloendothelial system[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Swiss albino (male, 25 ± 2 g)[1]
Dosage: 5 mg
Administration: i.p.; daily; 5 days
Result: Achieved 45% survival rate following LD50 endotoxin challenge without concurrent cortisone treatment, and 100% survival rate with concurrent cortisone treatment.
Induced fully elevated liver TO activity, significantly above saline control levels.
Reduced the level of endogenous hepatic glycogen.
Showed a carbon clearance K value of 0.048, not significantly different from saline control levels.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
