Pyclen can form stable, highly luminescent lanthanide (III) complexes, which serve as one- and two-photon biological probes. These complexes stain living human breast cancer cells, exhibit no significant toxicity in the living Danio rerio (zebrafish) model, and enable high-quality in vivo two-photon microscopy imaging^[1].
