Description

Iocarmic acid is a myelographic contrast agent. Iocarmic acid is used for lumbar nerve root angiography and ventriculography. Iocarmic acid induces arachnoiditis via lumbar subarachnoid injection. Iocarmic acid can be used for the research of arachnoiditis[1].

In Vivo

Iocarmic acid (1.2 mL of 282 mg I/mL; intrathecal; single injection) induces severe arachnoiditis in macaque monkeys undergoing experimental myelography, with maximum myelographic scores and an average histologic score of 18, which is significantly higher than scores for comparator contrast media and controls[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Macaque monkeys (5-7 kg)[1]
Dosage: 1.2 mL of 282 mg I/mL
Administration: intrathecal; single injection
Result: Induced a consistent myelographic arachnoiditis score of 36 (maximum possible score) across all 4 animals tested.
Produced an average histologic arachnoiditis score of 18, with individual scores ranging from 12 to 20.
Resulted in scores significantly higher than scores for iopamidol, metrizamide, and CSF controls (P < 0.05, Wilcoxon test).

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
