Kalibor
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Kalibor (Sodium tetraphenylborate; Tetraphenylboron sodium) is a boron-based salt and antibacterial agent. Kalibor exerts activity against Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Kalibor facilitates boron uptake by Neisseria meningitidis cells. Kalibor reduces bacterial burden in a mouse model of Neisseria meningitidis bacteremia. Kalibor can be used for the research of bacterial infection, such as meningococcal bacteremia.

Biological Activity
Kalibor (0-100 μM; 16 h) potently inhibits growth of Neisseria meningitidis isolate LNP24198 with an MIC of 12.5 μM[1].
Kalibor (30-50 μM; 3 h) displays rapid bactericidal activity against Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, with MBC values of 13 μM and 4 μM, respectively, and eliminates all viable cells at 50 μM[1].
Kalibor (1-100 μM; 8 h) promotes significant boron uptake in pathogenic Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis, with minimal uptake in non-pathogenic Neisseria lactamica and Neisseria elongata at 5 μM, and high uptake but no toxicity in N. elongata at 100 μM[1].
Kalibor (30-75 μM; 3-16 h) reduces susceptibility in Neisseria meningitidis mutants with decreased sodium tetraphenylborate sensitivity, which have 2-3 fold higher MICs (37.5-75 μM) and an MBC of 50 μM[1].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
Kalibor (20 μM; i.v., i.p.; single dose) does not cause visible toxicity in healthy mice over 4 weeks[1].

Administration:I.v. via tail vein; single dose; i.p.; single dose
-
Result:Reduced N. meningitidis bacterial burden (luminescence photons/ROI) maximally at 24 h postinfection.
Decreased clinical disease signs (squinted eyes, ruffled fur, lethargy) at 24 h postinfection compared to vehicle controls.
