PTPRF

PTPRF, better known as LAR (leukocyte common antigen-related phosphatase), is the founding member of the LAR subfamily of receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatases. Its extracellular segment contains immunoglobulin-like and fibronectin type III domains resembling a cell adhesion molecule, and it binds liprin scaffold proteins that organize postsynaptic and junctional complexes. Functionally, LAR dephosphorylates the insulin receptor and attenuates insulin signaling, linking it to metabolic regulation, and the phosphatase participates in mammary gland development and epithelial cell adhesion. Altered PTPRF expression has been reported in several carcinomas and in metabolic disease models. LAR inhibitors are actively explored for diabetes and cancer, making recombinant PTPRF a relevant drug-discovery reagent.
