Methyl abietate
Methyl abietate is a methyl ester derivative of abietic acid, which can be extracted from the rosin of Pinus elliottii engelm. and Pinus massoniana Lamb. Methyl abietate can be produced via the esterification of abietic acid or abietic acid contained in rosin with methanol, and can also be prepared through hydrogenation to yield hydrogenated abietic acid methyl ester.

Methyl abietate (1.0 g; 120 d; 25-35°C) undergoes partial autoxidation at 25-35°C over 120 d, with 54.4% conversion, forming methyl dehydroabietate as the primary product plus unique products not observed in solvent-based high-temperature autoxidation[1].
