Description

(-)-N-methylcoclaurine ((-)-(1R)-N-methylcoclaurine) is a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid and melanogenesis inhibitor with an IC50 of 6.5 μM that can be found in the flower buds of Nelumbo nucifera. (-)-N-methylcoclaurine inhibits theophylline-stimulated melanogenesis in melanoma cells. (-)-N-methylcoclaurine can be used for the research of skin hyperpigmentation disorders[1].

In Vitro

(-)-N-methylcoclaurine (3-30 μM) inhibits theophylline-stimulated melanogenesis in murine B16 melanoma 4A5 cells with an IC50 of 6.5 μM, without notable cytotoxicity at effective concentrations[1].
(-)-N-methylcoclaurine (10-100 μM) does not exhibit meaningful mushroom tyrosinase inhibitory activity at tested concentrations[1].
(-)-N-methylcoclaurine is present in varying quantities across different parts and regional samples of dried Nelumbo nucifera flower buds, with the highest content detected in Thai petal samples (5.85 mg/g dry material)[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
