MiZax5
MiZax5 is a zaxinone mimic and plant growth regulator (PGR) that negatively regulates strigolactone (SL) biosynthesis and release and promotes plant growth. MiZax5 downregulates the expression of SL biosynthesis-related genes D27, CCD7, CCD8, and carlactone oxidase, thereby reducing SL levels in rice roots and root exudates and further decreasing seed germination and emergence of the root parasitic plant Striga hermonthica. MiZax5 simultaneously promotes rice root growth and improves growth- and yield-related traits in various crops, making it useful for research related to plant growth regulation.

Description
In Vitro
MiZax5 (1 μM; 2 weeks) increases root length, crown root number, and root dry biomass of hydroponically grown Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare seedlings by 10%, 3%, and 6%, respectively[1].
MiZax5 (5 μM; 6 h) reduces orobanchol, 4-deoxyorobanchol, oxo-carlactone, and 4-oxo-MeCLA in the root exudates of hydroponically grown rice seedlings under low-phosphate conditions by 61%, 49%, 71%, and 79%, respectively[1].
Root exudates from low-phosphate rice treated with MiZax5 (5 μM; 6 h) reduce the germination rate of Striga hermonthica seeds by 36% relative to the blank control group[1].
MiZax5 (5 μM; twice weekly; up to 8 weeks) reduces the number of emerged Striga by 19% and increases rice plant height by 3% in the IAC-165 rice pot system in Striga-infested soil[1].
MiZax5 (5 μM; 6 h) reduces orobanchol and 4-deoxyorobanchol in roots and root exudates of wild-type rice under low-phosphate conditions, with a stronger reduction of 4-deoxyorobanchol than zaxinone; MiZax5 also downregulates the transcript levels of D27, CCD7, CCD8, and CO, with the transcript levels of CCD7 and CO being lower than those under zaxinone conditions[2].
MiZax5 (5 μM; 6 h) reduces the elevated 4-deoxyorobanchol levels in roots and root exudates of zas mutant rice, thereby partially restoring its high SL phenotype[2].
MiZax5 (5 μM) increases root surface area and crown root number in wild-type rice in the rhizotron soil system[2].
MiZax5 (50 nM, 5 μM; 3 days) does not produce a significant effect on Gigaspora margarita spore germination[2].
