Description

Acid blue 1 (Xylene blue) is an anionic triarylmethane dye and substrate for photocatalytic degradation[1].

In Vitro

Guidelines (The following is our recommended protocol, which serves only as a guideline and should be modified according to your specific needs)[1].
Experimental procedure:
1) Prepare an aqueous TiO2 dispersion by adding ZnO (or TiO2) powder to 100 mL of a solution containing Acid blue 1 dye at an appropriate concentration.
2) Add 100 mL of the dye solution into the reactor, and irradiate it at a wavelength of 365 nm (using two 15 W lamps). To carry out the reaction in media of different pH values, adjust the initial pH of the suspension by adding NaOH or HNO3 solution. Before irradiation, magnetically stir the dispersion in the dark for approximately 30 minutes to ensure that adsorption/desorption equilibrium is achieved.
3) At any given irradiation time interval, keep the dispersion under continuous stirring, take a 5 mL sample, centrifuge it, and then filter it through a Millipore filter membrane (pore size 0.22 μm) to separate ZnO (or TiO2) particles.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
