Polyacrylate sodium
Polyacrylate sodium is a sodium polyacrylate salt with extremely strong hygroscopicity. Polyacrylate sodium serves as a gel excipient and can be used as a pharmaceutical excipient. Polyacrylate sodium can reduce permeability by modifying bentonite to form a cavity-containing microstructure, while improving the chemical resistance, cation exchange capacity, and free swelling index of bentonite. Polyacrylate sodium can enhance the water retention capacity, available water content, and top-layer water content of sandy soil, while reducing the saturated hydraulic conductivity, wetting front advance rate, and infiltration rate. Polyacrylate sodium can chelate Cu2+ ions in aqueous solutions and has renewable adsorption capacity. Polyacrylate sodium is widely used in researches related to various fields such as consumer products, agriculture, and industry.

Biological Activity
Polyacrylate sodium -modified bentonite can form a cavity-containing microstructure to reduce permeability by creating a liquid flow barrier; it also improves the chemical resistance, cation exchange capacity, and free swelling index of bentonite[1].
Polyacrylate sodium dose-dependently increases the water-holding capacity, maximum capillary water-holding capacity, wilting moisture content, and maximum water supply capacity of sandy soil, and enhances the moisture content in the top layer (0-10 cm) of sandy soil columns; it dose-dependently reduces the saturated hydraulic conductivity of sandy soil, slows down the migration rate of the wetting front in sandy soil columns, and decreases the cumulative infiltration rate of sandy soil columns; among all treatments, the 1% treatment group shows the most significant effects[2].
Polyacrylate sodium is prepared with NaOH and can rapidly adsorb Cu2+ ions in aqueous solution; adsorbed Cu2+ can be recovered using 0.01 M nitric acid[3].
