ADAM30
ADAM30 is a small ADAM preferentially associated with the central nervous system, setting it apart from the reproductive and immune members of the family. Its structure carries the canonical pro-, metalloprotease, disintegrin and cytoplasmic domains of the family, although whether the catalytic site is active in vivo remains unresolved. The protein is reported in hippocampal neurons, and genetic and expression studies have drawn attention to ADAM30 in the context of Alzheimer disease, with altered levels described in affected brain regions. No firmly established substrate is known, and recombinant ADAM30 is positioned as a research reagent for neurodegeneration-focused laboratories studying amyloid-related protease networks.
