ADAMTS12

ADAMTS12 is a secreted member of the family best known from disease-association genetics. Genome-wide studies have repeatedly connected the ADAMTS12 locus with asthma and psoriasis, and the enzyme shows strong expression at tissue-remodeling sites, including skin and airway. Functionally, ADAMTS12 degrades COMP (cartilage oligomeric matrix protein) and has been characterized as a modulator of fibrosis, with protective effects observed in experimental models of arthritis and tissue injury. Together these findings position ADAMTS12 as a remodeling-associated enzyme whose recombinant form is applied in inflammation and fibrosis research. The C-terminal region contains a PLAC domain, a hallmark shared with ADAMTS7, and expression is induced at sites of chronic tissue remodeling.
