CD119
CD119 is the CD designation for interferon-gamma receptor 1 (IFNGR1), the ligand-binding chain of the receptor complex through which IFN-gamma activates macrophages, endothelial cells, and many other cell types. Ligand engagement triggers association with IFNGR2 and JAK1/JAK2 signaling, driving STAT1 phosphorylation and transcription of MHC class II and chemokine genes central to cell-mediated immunity. Human mutations in IFNGR1 predispose to severe infections with mycobacteria and Salmonella, illustrating the receptor's non-redundant protective role. Because endothelial cells are prominent IFN-gamma responders, CD119 is included among endothelial CD antigens and is widely used in inflammation and immunology research.
