CD196/CCR6
CD196/CCR6 is a chemokine receptor that stands out among CC receptors for having a single known ligand, CCL20 (MIP-3 alpha), and for being expressed on cell populations that often produce that ligand themselves. It marks Th17 cells, memory B cells, and mucosal dendritic cells, directing their homing to intestinal and epithelial barrier sites where CCL20 is induced by inflammatory stimuli. Signaling through Gi-type G proteins promotes actin polymerization and directional cell migration. CCR6 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis, and the receptor has also been reported to support HIV entry in certain cell types. Recombinant CD196/CCR6 is used in chemotaxis and ligand-blocking assays.
