CD286/TLR6
CD286 corresponds to TLR6, an endosomal Toll-like receptor that partners exclusively with TLR2 to recognize diacylated lipopeptides and lipoteichoic acids from Gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasmas. Additional reported ligands include zymosan and certain heat shock proteins. Ligation activates the canonical MyD88-NF-κB cascade, producing TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-12 from macrophages and dendritic cells. TLR6 is expressed in monocytes, B cells and pulmonary epithelium, and gene variants have been linked to asthma susceptibility. Recombinant TLR6 and TLR2 pathway components are used to dissect combinatorial pattern recognition in innate immunity research.
