CD1c

CD1c is a group 1 CD1 isoform that presents microbial and self lipids to a diverse repertoire of CD1c-restricted T cells. Known antigenic ligands include mycobacterial phosphomycoketide and mannosyl-beta1-phosphomycoketide, and CD1c-restricted clones responding to malignantly transformed cells have been isolated, supporting a role in tumor immune surveillance. Among blood dendritic cells, CD1c (formerly BDCA-1) defines the classical CD1c+ myeloid dendritic cell subset, and it is also expressed on B cells and Langerhans cells. Recent work shows that endogenous lipids, including certain methyl-branched fatty acids, can serve as CD1c ligands. CD1c is therefore widely used together with CD141 and CD1a to stratify human dendritic cell subsets.
