IgG2A

IgG2a is a mouse immunoglobulin subclass with no direct human counterpart, best known as the potent effector antibody of murine Th1-type responses. Its Fc region binds the activating mouse Fc gamma receptors Fc gamma RIII and Fc gamma RIV and fixes complement efficiently, so IgG2a antibodies drive ADCC, opsonization, and inflammation in rodent models, functioning as the rough analog of human IgG1. Many widely used functional and depleting monoclonal antibodies for mouse studies are built on an IgG2a framework. Because genetic variation between laboratory strains determines whether mice express IgG2a or the closely related IgG2c, isotype controls must be selected accordingly.
