Biological Activity
Dextran T20 (MW 20,000) is covalently bound to bovine hemoglobin, forming a stable dextransome-hemoglobin complex (dex20-bHb). dex20-bHb significantly reduces the self-oxidation rate of hemoglobin by enhancing the tetramer stability and oxygen affinity of hemoglobin1.
Dextran T20 (MW 20,000) can be used to construct cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG)-right glycolic acid conjugates. These conjugates can significantly enhance the uptake by antigen-presenting cells and trigger a strong immune response, but their relatively small size may not be sufficient to provide strong resistance to nucleases[2].
Dextran T20 (MW 20,000) is covalently bound to a cationic peptide R5H5 to form a right-handed dextran-peptide hybrid (Dex-R5H5), which is used for the safe and effective delivery of genes (plasmid DNA)[3].
